Soul Searching The Nodes of God Book 1 eBook Keith Caserta
I was very impressed by the attention to detail, believability, character depth, as well as plot and action in this story. The author describes the attempts of U.S. military to develop an artificial intelligence, to help it overcome drowning in a deluge of data and very costly mistakes on the battlefield. It succeeds beyond its wildest expectations. Now, this is a work of fiction meant to be enjoyable, not a historical chronicle, so some dramatic effects are exaggerated, and the immense engineering difficulties and the amount of time over which the development of a true AI might happen (if ever) are under-reported. All in all, this is a very fine book, one of the best I've read in the near-future hard SF genre.Tags : Soul Searching (The Nodes of God Book 1) - Kindle edition by Keith Caserta. Soul Searching The Nodes of God Book 1 eBook Keith Caserta Reviews
I enjoyed the structure of the novel, and how all of the plots were meticulously positioned throughout the sequence of events. Two points kept my on edge. The first was the establishment of and definitions surrounding genetic continuity. This was really a brilliant concept that grabbed my attention during the second half of the novel. The other point was the quiet references to Star Trek. I remember two but I'm guessing there are more. Dr. Caserta did an excellent job laying the foundation of the book from both a scientific point of view and using his local knowledge of the Cincinnati-Dayton area. It helped ground the book's theme into everyday terminology. The use of scientific terms was easy to comprehend, including the "number of nerve endings" in the fingers and hands. The characters were thoughtfully researched, developed, and presented to the reader so you could easily understand their soul and how the plots related to their unique circumstances. I'm looking forward to Dr. Caserta's next book. Great job Keith!
To me this is not a SCi Fi book. This is a book about two women that talk about their feelings. The SCi Fi in this book is just the backdrop to the story.
Soul Searching is a compelling story. The story of DENNIS--a very believable supercomputer--and its (his?) impact on two young women, Dee and Ali, is fascinating. If you want a peek into the the future, read this book. Well paced, this was my favorite bedtime read for 2011.
Dr. Caserta paints a very plausible picture of (near?) future computing and machine-human interaction. Thought provoking, sometimes a bit scary, and always entertaining!
I really enjoyed this book! There are several elements I look for in a good story Engaging characters, a well paced story line, some interesting technology evolution, and a good twist or two. This book had it all! I won't give away any of the story line, but will just say that if you're looking for a nice read with some real fun in it, this one filled exactly that bill for me.
Enjoy!
This was an amazing read! The story is really well thought out and makes you think about A.I., virtual reality and the human soul in ways you may never have before. Ali and Dee are great characters that will make you laugh out loud at certain times as well as bring a normal person's point of view into a world of wild technology and concepts. Without any spoilers, the plot has a nice "accidental" twist which really takes the story to a new level and where, in my opinion, it really takes off.
Dr. Caserta please consider writing some sort of follow up to this! This particular story begs for a sequel. It would be a day one purchase for me. I for one would absolutely love to hear more of Ali and Dee's story and possibly find out if a certain A.I. ever makes a comeback.
Thanks for a great ride, you have an amazing gift for writing and I'm looking forward to your next book.
Dr. Keith Caserta has done something very different to communicate his findings about technology. He has written a science fiction novel that is a rollicking good story.
Science fiction is speculative, exploratory, but also revealing in its view of our future direction. Just finished reading this, and it is a great effort. I was struck by his touching on many of my own areas of interest and experience. Also it's a very well told story, combining both an engineering view and human elements in his sometimes scary and uncertain future. In the human part you get to know several people, like us, who are are often struggling to work with a world of new tech.
Along the way you get plausible tales of DARPA, Cyc, AI, Neural Networks, Singularities and Quantum Computing. As in all speculative fiction, he stretches each topic more or less, and it is fun to measure each by your own reading and experiences.
Read it.
This book was an interesting read on artificial intelligence. Not having a significant background in super-computing, parts were a bit dry and long on technical explanations. But the story moved along enough that these did not reduce my enjoyment of the book. I look forward to reading Book 2 in the series.
